FOR Terrafirma, the pro league’s extended pre-season will not just be a mere exhibition tourney.
“Dito ma-de-decide ang fate ng mga expirees,” Dyip coach Johnedel Cardel said. “Kahit na no-bearing ang mga games, mayroon pa ring bearing ito para sa kanila.
“Preparation na rin for the coming season, para makita talaga kung sino ang puwede at hindi uubra sa sistema,” he added.
Terrafirma kicks off its bid when it battles Converge today in the PBA on Tour at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig.
The curtain-raiser is set at 5 p.m. before NLEX tangles with an NLEX five raring to make up from a numbing loss the last time out at 7:30.
Almost all the current Dyip have contracts that last only up to December and Cardel has opted to include former 3X3 players Jeremiah Taladua and Shaq Alanes to the squad.
Cardel said he is eyeing to add big men to his team through the draft on Sept. 17.
“Kung wala kaming makuha in the course of this ‘On Tour’ siguro sa draft na lang kami aasa. Priority namin bigs. Kung makakakuha kami ng dalawang bigs, very welcome para sa amin iyon,” he said.
“More on takbuhan kami ngayon kasi nga maliliit. Kaya naman we have prepared accordingly since we started practices almost three weeks now. Siyempre, ang emphasis nasa conditioning.”
The FiberXers will be boosted by new additions Adrian Wong and Mike Nieto, acquired from Magnolia and Rain or Shine, respectively, in a pair of recent trades.
