LARA Posadas was swept by Germany’s Brit Noreiks 215-220, 225-228 yesterday in their battle for the bronze medal in the women’s singles action of the IBF World Cup at the Suncity Bowl in Queensland, Australia.
It was a heartbreaking loss for Posadas, who seemed poised to extend the best-of-3 series to a rubber match after snatching the lead in the second with five-bagger (five straight strikes) from the second to sixth frames to build a seemingly imposing lead.
But the German, who had a wobbly start in the second match, finished strong to snatching the bronze in the tournament organized by the International Bowling Federation under a new format.
Posadas was relegated to the fight for the bronze after losing 1-2 (201-207, 175-171, 214-190) to No. 1 seed Bryanna Cote in the semifinals earlier in the day.
Sizzling hot, the seventh-seeded Posadas earlier swept Swede Anna Anderson 222-213, 233-194 in the quarterfinals to advance to the semis against the No. 1 seed Cote.
The Nationals will have their last crack at a medal when the men’s squad of Merwin Tan, Jordan Dinham, Emerson Gotencio and Kenneth Chua tackle the hometown squad in the men’s team semifinals today.
