AS required by the International Olympic Committee, the Philippine Olympic Committee is set to approve amendments to its constitution and by-laws during its first general assembly meeting next week, according to POC president Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino.

“Finally, the POC will approve amendments to our constitution and by-laws as mandated by the IOC during our general assembly next week,” Tolentino said during the PSA Forum at the East Ocean Palace Hotel in Pasay City.

He said among the charter changes expected to be approved during the meeting is limiting the age of POC candidates to 75 years old as well as requiring the POC head to serve only three four-year terms, or a maximum of 12 years.

He added the immediate past president and chairman will no longer be members of the POC Executive Board under the revised charter while a sports official can only be a member of two National Sports Associations.

“My only lament is that why are these changes only being made now and focused on the board. Anyway, we will abide in the spirit of consensus,” Tolentino said, adding the charter changes have been approved by the IOC. — Bong Pedralvez
