THE Philippine Olympic Committee has expanded its role as the disbursing agent of funds for the operations of the 30th Southeast Asian Games to include such items as hotel expenses, catering and transportation, according to POC president Bambol Tolentino.
“There are other items that the Philippine Sports Commission wants us to help in the disbursement of funds, aside from buying the equipment for the SEA Games,” Tolentino said.
“Hotel expenses, transportation and catering and personnel services are not equipment but the PSC wants us to disburse these funds, too, to expedite the process. We have added these in the revised tripartite deal among the PSC, POC and Philippine Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee,” he added.
POC secretary general Atty. Ed Gastanes, who will be the man in charge over the transactions, said the local Olympic body will also help in the liquidation and justification of the expenses.
“Hindi lang basta kami (the POC) bayad ng bayad,” Gastanes stressed.
Both POC officials said the additions to the old agreement will be presented to the POC general assembly for approval on Sept. 25.
Under the previous agreement, the PSC will release funds to the POC in the purchase of equipment for the SEA Games to cut on the red tape and expedite the process for the games set to start on Nov. 30.
