AFTER hosting prestigious international competitions in the country for the last two years, the Philippine Volleyball National Federation announced yesterday it is bidding to host the 2025 Women’s World Championship.
PNVF president Ramon “Tats” Suzara said the federation is targeting to host the prestigious volleyball tournament in the country and will travel to Poland to attend the first bid meeting with the FIVB.
Suzara said the country isn’t the only nation eyeing to host the World Championships.
“I’m going to Poland next week to attend the first bidding meeting. Five countries are bidding for this — the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Hong Kong and Indonesia,” Suzara said yesterday during the Volleyball Nations League Week 3 action at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Since the formation of the PNVF in 2021, the federation has brought world-class international tilts in the country like the VNL and the AVC Cup for Women, both held last year.
Suzara is confident the country will be a strong contender as host.
If the country gets the right to stage the World Championships, the Philippines will have sure slot in the 32-team field.
The last time that the country participated in the World Championships was back in 1974.
Suzara is looking to field a mix of collegiate players and some pro stars.
