PLDT trounced Cignal 25-21, 25-23, 22-25, 25-21 yesterday to keep alive its semifinals bid in the PVL Reinforced Conference at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The High Speed Hitters lived for another day, thanks to Russian import Elena Samoilenko who tallied 27 points, 23 off attacks and four blocks.
Dell Palomata delivered 15 points while Reyes and Toni Rose Basas scored 11 and 10 markers, respectively for PLDT, which scored a fitting follow-up to its 11-25, 21-25, 19-25 victory over Akari last Thursday and improved to 3-4.
The HD Spikers, coming off a 25-22, 34-32, 15-25, 16-25, 15-13 stunner over defending champion Petro Gazz five days ago, fell to 3-3.
“Ang sabi ko, our goal is siyempre to win the match as much as possible so ang sabi ko sa kanila don’t stop kasi not yet finished. Kung mag-stop ka (sa) two sets pa lang, posible na bumaliktad iyong situation,” High Speed Hitters coach George Pascua said. “Lagi kong nire-remind sa kanila, keep fighting lang.”
“We need at least three sets won kasi para pag nagkaroon ng point system. Hoping pa rin kami, may chance pa rin,” he added.
American reinforcement Tai Beirria paced Cignal with 16 points, while Ces Molina and Roselyn Doria added 15 and 14 kills.
