ALTHOUGH she came up with a solid game, former World Cup champion Krizziah Tabora-Macatula finished a far eighth in the women’s singles event at the start of the 26th Asian Tenpin Bowling Championships at the SCAA Bowling Center in Hong Kong.
Macatula, who bagged the World Cup crown in Acapulco, Mexico in 2017, had lines of 240, 230, 201, 220, 244 and 266 for a six-game average of 243.13 in the tournament that drew 16 countries from all over Asia.
But it wasn’t enough to keep her within striking distance of the three podium finishers as she finished 124 pins behind Singapore’s Cherie Tan, who bagged the gold medal with a score of 1525 on a sizzling clip of 254.17 on lines of 256, 255, 234, 256. 256 and 268.
Tan emerged on top, 49 pins ahead of Malaysian silver medalist Natasha Roslan (1476-276), while South Korean Hwang Yeongu (1459-243.17) settled for the bronze in the competition serving as a qualifying meet for the IBA World Bowling Championships.
Veteran Lara Posadas-Wong finished 16th (1350-225) while teammate Rachelle Leon was 18th (1332-222).
The team’s stint was supported by the Philippine Sports Commission.
Their male counterparts also struggled in the men’s singles, with Ian Dychangco emerging as the best Pinoy bet, placing 25th (1438-239.67) while Ivan Malig (1393-233.17) and Daniel Evangelista (1387-231.17) stood in 40th and 43rd places, respectively.
The competition resumed yesterday with the doubles event in both the men and women’s divisions.
