FILIPINO bowlers struck big last Tuesday to move up in the standings of the overseas men’s and women’s divisions qualifiers of the 53rd Singapore International Open Tenpin Bowling Championships at the SingaporeBowling@Rifle range lanes.
Making their presence felt in the distaff side were Krizziah Tabora-Macatula and Dyan Arcel Coronacion, who are now running third and fourth, respectively.
A former World Cup champion, Macatula, who was in ninth spot the previous day, banked on her 687 in the first three-game series to offset her dip of 587 in the next for a total score of 1271 and wheel into third.
She stood 110 pins behind Malaysians Faten Najihah Ahmad Faik (1381) and 31 behind Natasha Mohamed Roslan (1302) in the tournament serving as one of the tune-up meets for the national squad set to compete in the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in Thailand in November.
Close behind Macatula was Coronacion, who was steadier, bowling a series of 643 and 623 for a total of 1266, good for fourth.
The top 10 finishers advance to the two-round finals starting Saturday.
Making a bid to crack the top 10 was veteran Lara Posadas Wong, who was at No. 11 with a tally of 1198, just seven points behind Malaysian Alyaa Aldini Zulamri.
Also rising in the standings was Jordan Dinham-Alcantara, who wheeled into ninth spot after a series of 672 and 664 for a total of 1334, just 45 pins behind new Malaysian leader Mussayar bin Khalid, who wrested the top spot in the men’s class after shooting 1383 (692-689) in the division where the 14 top finishers advance to the finals.
