Pinoy athletics chief elected to Asian Board

PHILIPPINE Athletics Track and Field Association president Terry Capistrano was elected as one of the eight members of the Asian Athletic Association Executive Board in elections held during the AAA Congress the other day in Bangkok, Thailand, according to Patafa secretary general Edward Kho.

“Sir Terry garnered 33 votes and was a close second behind the topnotcher with 34 votes,” Kho said of the polls witnessed by World Athletics president Sebastian Coe.

He said there were 16 candidates to the eight-man council while 44 countries voted during the election.

Qatar’s Dahlan Jumaan Al Hamad was re-elected by acclamation to a new four-year term as AAA president, Kho added.

Dahlan, first elected in 2013, also won the last time polls were held during the AAA general assembly simultaneous with the 24th Asian Athletic Championships in Doha, Qatar in 2019.

Aside from Coe, also present were European Athletics president Dobromir Karamarinov of Bulgaria along with the heads of continental federations from Africa, North and South America and the Caribbean, a report by a Qatar news website said.
