THE Philippines has been awarded the right to host the grueling Southeast Asian Trail Running Cup scheduled from June 19 to 23 in Bontoc, Mountain Province, according to Philippine Trail Running Association secretary general Tin Ferrera.
“We at Philtra and our athletes have joined the World Mountain Trail Running Championships and other big events outside the region and across Asia and we believe it’s time we show what we have,” Ferrera, also the president of the Southeast Asia Trail Running Confederation, said.
“That’s why we are grateful to SEATRC for choosing our country as the host of this exciting and demanding event,” she said.
The SEA Trail Running Cup is the pinnacle of mountain trail running in the region, gathering the finest trail runners from eight countries across the region who will negotiate challenging trails in mountainous landscapes.
About 200 athletes are set to compete in various categories, including the individual long trail, short trail, mountain classic, and vertical uphill on top of the coveted team championship.
Ferrera said the Philippines will assemble a highly competitive squad bannered by John Ray Onifa and Arnie Macaneras, the Asia Trail Master Champions in 2022 and 2023, respectively.
