THE Philippine men’s volleyball team began its campaign in the 2023 AVC Challenge Cup for Men on a high by blasting Macau 25-21, 25-15, 25-14 yesterday at the Taipei Gym.
Behind star spiker Marck Espejo, the Filipinos zoomed to a fast start in Pool D of the preliminaries while boosting their chances of advancing to the quarterfinals.
The likes of Jao Umandal, returning Kim Malabunga, Lloyd Josafat, and Filipino-American Steven Rotter also shone for the wards of coach Sergio Veloso.
The Philippines’ win over Macau sent the latter out of the playoff contention as it fell to 0-2.
The national team looks to sweep its pool phase campaign when it goes up against Mongolia next.
South Korea and Australia also registered wins on the second day of the week-long meet.
