PETRO Gazz will get a shot at redemption against defending champion Creamline in the Big Dance. MJ Phillips and Jonah Sabete made sure about that last night.
The Angels whipped the PLDT High Speed Hitters 25-17, 25-23, 25-15 in Game 3 of their best-of-3 semifinals clash in the PVL All-Filipino Conference at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay.
Phillips led the way for Petro Gazz with 15 points, 11 off attacks and four blocks, while Sabete pumped in 13 points along with six digs.
Playmaker Djanel Cheng tossed 17 excellent sets along with four points, while Grethcel Soltones tallied 12 hits, 11 digs, and 11 excellent receptions for the Angels.
Petro Gazz made up for a 25-14, 23-25, 14-25, 15-25 loss to the High Speed Hitters in the second match of the race-to-2 series last Tuesday.
More importantly, the triumph allowed the Angels to forge a best-of-3 finals duel with the fancied Cool Smashers beginning this Sunday, March 26, at the same venue.
After taking the first two sets, the belles of coach Oliver Almadro zoomed to a 20-9 spread after a hit from Dzi Gervacio.
A service ace from Cheng shoved Petro Gazz to match point before an Aiza Maizo-Pontillas point sealed the Angels’ triumph.
It will be the fourth meeting between Petro Gazz and Creamline in the finals of the pro league and second straight in the import-less tourney.
The sorry loss relegated PLDT to the battle for third against F2 Logistics.
Dell Palomata and Jovy Prado paced the High Speed Hitters with 10 points each.
