Petecio, Obiena gain POC voting slots

TOKYO Olympic Games veterans Nesty Petecio and Ernest John Obiena took the first and second places, respectively, the new five-man Philippine Olympic Committee Athletes Commission in polls held over the weekend at the Rizal Coliseum.

A silver medalist in the Tokyo Olympics, Petecio was re-elected with the highest number of votes at 121 while world No. 2 ranked pole vaulter Obiena garnered 99 votes.

They will serve four-year terms as members of the POC’s consultative and advisory body representing the national athletes.

They will also be tapped as the commission’s two voting representatives to the POC polls in November.

Also re-elected was two-time Olympic swimmer Jessie Khing Lacuna (83), Gilas Women’s basketball standout Jack Aminam (80) and veteran national women’s football player Inna Palacios during the polls attended by POC secretary general Atty. Wharton Chan and deputy secretary general Karen Tanchanco.
