Perpetual settles for individual workouts

PERPETUAL Help is raring and ready for scrimmages. But there’s one big hurdle.

Although camped in a bubble, Altas coach Myk Saguiguit said his charges are reduced to individual workouts since the school’s gym in Las Piñas is being used as a vaccination site for the dreaded COVID-19 pandemic.

“Katatapos lang ng quarantine. Naka-three days na kami after swab, dito kasi sa amin, hindi kami maka-conduct kasi vaccination site, puro individual lang, workout, weights,” Saguiguit told Malaya-Business Insight yesterday.

“Hindi kami makapag-practice sa court kasi ginagamit bilang facility,” he added.

The Commission on Higher Education gave the green light for the resumption of collegiate training under stringent rules last November.

The move came on the heels of more contact sports being allowed in the NCR after the region was placed under Alert Level 2 at that time.
Saguiguit rued the timing of the soaring COVID infections.

“Noong nag-Level 2, may chance na nagkita-kita iyong players kaso hindi kami makapag-conduct ng practices. Noong lumabas na ang aming approval, nag-Level 3. Naputol na naman,” Saguiguit said.

“Nandito na lahat ng players, nasa Perpetual na. Kapag sa hapon, nakakapag-cluster practice naman pero more on shooting kaso wala talagang scrimmage. Mahigpit ang aming admins, gusto talagang sumunod sa protocols.”
Beginning last Jan. 3, Metro Manila has been placed under the stricter Alert Level 3 status until Jan. 31 where contact sports is not allowed.

Collegiate squads, however, could still hold face-to-face training since it will be under a bubble set-up.
