‘Perfect match’

PRO league great Philip Cezar is convinced Ginebra star wingman Scottie Thompson and World Balance are a perfect match.

“Scottie, in a way stood for everything that Cezar did as an athlete. We’re similar in so many ways,” Cezar said.

“Kahit na magkaiba kami ng position sa paglalaro, masaya ako para sa World Balance, dahil nakakuha sila ng player na buo ang loob bukod sa masipag at madiskarte, kaya para sa akin okay na siya ang napili to carry the torch for the brand and hopefully he can bring others along,” he added.

Four decades since its introduction, World Balance has stood the test of time as a brand and penetrated the consciousness of consumers in a big way through aggressive marketing, celebrity endorsers, brand collabs and international partnerships.

With the soon to be released “Scottie 1” signature shoe, this serves as World Balance’s comeback as a brand, worn on a professional level to go toe-to-toe with the footwear giants since Cezar in the early 80s.

The 6-foot-1 Thompson, who has five titles with the Kings and a finals MVP award he captured in the 2018 mid-season Commissioner’s Cup, became the first player since Cezar to sign with the brand.

A member of the PBA’s 40 Greatest Players, Cezar, known as the “Tapal King,” has a good advice to Thompson.

“Well, lagi niya lang isipin na it’s not all about the money, alam ko sa panahon ngayon halos lahat gusto ng endorsements. Lahat naman iyan kikitain pero importante iyong pakikisama sa lahat, hindi mababayaran ng pera iyon. Kasi ganoon ginawa ko noon, kaya naging close ako sa World Balance,” he said.

“Kahit na anong gawin ko sa paggawa ng sapatos, sa design, tinitignan naman nila kung puwede o hindi. Basta, importante marunong ka makisama at laging maging mapagkumbaba.”
