PHILIPPINE Charity Sweepstakes Office Chairman Junie Cua has hailed the Philippine contingent to the 2023 Asian Games for their “heroic campaign.”
“Congratulations to our athletes for their heroic campaign. Our country owes its gratitude to you for your proud efforts to carry our flag,” Cua said.
Team Philippines clinched four gold medals, two silvers and 12 bronzes, finishing 17th overall during the two-week continental tilt in Hangzhou, China.
This was the Philippines’ highest ranking since placing 14th overall in 1994 in Hiroshima, Japan.
“Not only our medalists, but all 395 athletes who participated, deserve all the accolades for a job well done,” Cua said.
“They faced a lot of difficulties in their respective sports events, but they remained determined as they fought for the country and the Filipinos valiantly,” he added.
Cua vowed that the PCSO would strive harder to raise more funds for sports development. The agency contributes part of its proceeds to the Philippine Sports Commission for the country’s sports development program.
Under Republic Act 6847, the PCSO is required to remit the proceeds of six sweepstakes lottery draws per year to the PSC.
“We are studying how we can raise more funds for the flourishing of sports in our country. We will do our best to improve on this regard,” Cua said.
