WHILE the Paris Olympic fever still lingers, the Philippine Olympians Association marked the country’s historic centennial jubilee of participation in the Summer Games by recognizing past and present Olympic veterans.
Cited during the occasion were Olympic swimmers Christine Jacob-Sandejas, (1984, Los Angeles), Akiko Thomson Guevarra (1988, Seoul;1992 Barcellona; 1996, Atlanta), Rene Concepcion (1988, Seoul) Jessie Khing Lacuna (2008, Beijing; 2012, London), judoka Benie McMurray (1988, Seoul), fencers Percival Alger (1988, Seoul), Walter Torres, currently commissioner of the Philippine Sports Commission, (1992, Barcelona); Taekwondo jins Stephen Fernandez, College of St. Benilde athletic director and POA treasurer (1992, Barcelona); Roberto Cruz, CSB taekwondo coach, (2000, Sydney); Kirstie Elaine Allora, a CSB alumna, and Paris Olympic Games fencer Samantha Catantan.
Each Filipino Olympian was awarded a certificate and a medallion from the World Olympians Association during the occasion.
