HAVING likely shaken off the rust from her previous outing, Bianca Pagdanganan hopes to perform better when she resumes her campaign in the LPGA tour today in the HSBC Women’s World Championship at the Sentosa Golf Club in Singapore.

Pagdanganan, competing in her second event in the 2024 season, will be among the stellar cast of 66 golfers, including the top 10 players in the Rolex Women’s world golf rankings led by No. 1 Lilia Vu of the US, who will tee off at the par-72, 6,749-yard Tanjong Course on the famed resort island in Keppel Harbor.

Back-to-back South Korean champion Jin Young-ko will also be returning as well as compatriots Hyo Joo-kim and Jiyai Shin, who ruled the event in 2021 and 2009, respectively.

Upon her return, the ICTSI-sponsored Pagdanganan finished in a tie for 29th place at the Honda LPGA Thailand at the Siam Golf Club Old Course in Chonburi, Thailand over the weekend with a four-round tally of 279,

What was encouraging about her stint was that she twice scored 68, four-under par, aside from a 71 and 72, so precision will come into play for the former 2019 Philippine Southeast Asian Games double gold medalist on the layout known for its huge bunkers.

Aside from chasing the top prize of $270,000 (roughly P15.1 million), Pagdanganan will also aim to tighten her grip on her Olympic qualifying bid. She currently stands No. 37 in the International Golf Federation Women’s Olympic rankings.

The top 15 golfers at the end of June 24 cut-off date will seal tickets to the Paris Olympic Games in July while those ranked 26 to 29 will also be eligible to compete in the global sports showcase, limited to two per country.
