Paddlers eye lofty goal

FILIPINO table tennis campaigners have often been considered whipping boys in the Southeast Asian Games.

Proof of this sad development is the fact that veteran Richard Gonzales could only bring home a single bronze medal in the men’s singles of the Philippine edition at the Subic Bay Exhibition & Convention Center in Olongapo, Zambales three years ago.

Table tennis chief Ting Ledesma is bidding to erase that tag for the Pinoy paddlers, who plunge into action today in the 31st Vietnam Southeast Asian Games. Matches will be held at the Hai Durong Sporting Hall, 72.9 kilometers southeast of the Vietnamese capital of Hanoi, in Hai Durong province.
