A Philippine Airlines flight carrying Sen. Manny Pacquiao and his boxing team for Los Angeles made an emergency medical landing in Haneda, Japan more than five hours after leaving the Ninoy Aquino International Airport on Saturday night.

Cielo Villaluna, Philippine Airlines spokesperson, said flight PR-102 departed NAIA Terminal 1 at around 9 p.m. but was forced to make an emergency landing in Haneda at around 3 a.m. as one of its passengers needed medical attention.

“We confirm that flight PR 102 MNL-LAX which departed Manila at 9PM July 3, diverted to Haneda to address a medical emergency. The plane landed at Haneda Airport at 3:36 a.m. (local time HND),” Villaluna said.

“The medical emergency was addressed after medical personnel in HND entered the aircraft and provided medical support,” she added.

Villaluna said the flight was forced to return to Manila since the landing permit given by LAX was only up to 12 midnight of July 4 (local time US). Since the plane diverted its route and refueled, its estimated time of arrival in LAX was around past 1 a.m. of July 5.

PR flight 102 arrived at the NAIA Terminal at around noon and left the Manila airport going to Los Angeles at around 2 p.m.
