PERPETUAL Help and Mapua try to keep their records unblemished and their stranglehold of the lead as they tackle San Beda and Jose Rizal U, respectively, today in 99th NCAA juniors’ basketball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.
The Junior Altas and the Red Robins hurdled their first three assignments and seized joint leadership and another victory today against the Red Cubs (2-1) at 12 p.m. and the Light Bombers (1-2) at 8 a.m. would fortify their hold of the top spot.
Like acid rain, UPHSD skipper Amiel Acido stung the Junior Blazers by dropping a masterful 33-point effort in a 110-91 rout Sunday that kept the Junior Altas unflappable at the helm.
That sterling job hiked the 19-year-old 12th grader’s per-game average to 18.67, the league’s second highest next to the 23.33-point norm of EAC’s EJ Castillo while catapulting him straight to the MVP race.
“Ang focus ko lang is to help my team win,” said Acido, last season’s Mythical Team member and Defensive Player of the Year.
