SAN Beda varsity junior swimming standout Jose Albert Amaro II and La Salle-Araneta phenom Sopha Rose Garra continued to make the country proud yesterday with a gold and silver in their respective events at the 47th Southeast Asian Age Group Swimming Championships in Singapore.
Amaro delivered the first gold for the Pinoy tankers in a down-the-wire race in the boys 16-18-year-old 50-meter butterfly event, clocking 25.15 seconds to shade Indon Jason Donovan Yusuf (25.16) and Singaporean Ted Windsor Chang (25.23), who were second and third, respectively.
Teammate Alexander George Echler (25.28) was fourth while Jamesray Ajido (25.53) placed fifth.
Garra added to the Philippine medal tally, beating hometown bet Yeok Han Ng to the silver in the girls 13-and-under 200-meter backstroke, clocking 2:24.33 to the latter’s 2:24.68. Thai Oravee Intaporn-Udom (2:20.33) took the gold.
