Ramos, Agad bag 4 silvers in Asian meet

ZAMBOANGA City pride Rosegie Ramos bagged three silver medals in the women’s 49-kilogram division while Fernando Agad Jr. also had one silver in the men’s 55-kg class at the start of the Asian Weightlifting Championships in Jiangshan, China over the weekend.

A niece of Tokyo Olympic gold medalist Hidylin Diaz-Naranjo, Ramos hoisted 90 kilos in the snatch and 107 in the clean-and-jerk for a total lift of 197 kilos to settle for overall runner-up honors behind Thailand’s Thanyathon Sukrachoen (200; 91-109).

China’s Xiang Linxiang (189; 86/103) copped three bronze medals in the weight division of the competition, which will be the last time the old weight categories will be used before the International Weightlifting Federation implements the new one, effective June 1.

Fernando Agad Jr. took the silver medal in the clean-and-jerk, hoisting 141 kilos and was fourth in the snatch and total lifts with 133 and 254 kilos, respectively.
