Pinoy para archers win 2nd bronze in Bangkok

PARIS Paralympic Games veteran Agustina Bantiloc teamed up with Marzel Burgos to give the country its second bronze medal in the Asia Par Cup-World Ranking Tournament in Bangkok, Thailand over the weekend.

Burgos and Bantiloc topped the Hong Kong pair of Chang Yuen and Ngai Ka Chuen 140-134 in the battle for third place to win the bronze in the mixed-team compound event

The Filipino duo was the silver medalist in the same event in the 2022 ASEAN Para Games in Surakarta, Indonesia. They advanced to the semifinals after upsetting fancied Taiwanese Wu Ching-hung and Yang Jyun-kai in the quarterfinals of the stint supported by the Philippine Sports Commission.

But they were relegated to the battle for the bronze after losing in the semis to the world No. 1 Indian pair of Rakeh Kumar and Sunder Swami 121-154, who went on to win the gold medal by shading Indonesia 150-148 in the finals.

It was the second bronze for Burgos, who had earlier teamed up with Angelo Manangdang to nipp the Malaysian pair of Wiro Julin and Daneshen Govinda Rajan 141-40 in the battle for third in the compound men’s open team event.

The competition serves as a ranking and qualifying meet for the Los Angeles Paralympic Games in 2028.
