PARIS Paralympic Games veteran Angel Mae Otom clocked 48 seconds flat in the women’s 50-meter S5 butterfly stroke finals late Tuesday night for her second straight fourth-place finish in the World Para Swimming Championships at the OCBC Aquatic Center in Singapore.

The limbless Otom swam more than 10 seconds slower than Chinese Paris Paralympic Games double gold medalist He Shenggao, who took the gold in a continental record time of 38.82.

American Katie Kubiac took the silver (39.34) while Turkish Paris Paralympic Games bronze medalist Sevilay Ozturk (43.79) settled for the bronze in the competition being held in Asia for the first time.

“This was still a good time for Angel considering the tough field she was up against. But it could have been better if she was trimmer,” noted national para swimming coach Tony Ong.

The Olongapo City swimmer also placed fourth in the women’s 50-meter backstroke S5 finals two days ago with a time of 45.60 seconds.
