FIL-AM Willie Morrison opened his athletics season over the weekend on an encouraging note, ruling the men’s shot put of the Bloomington Invitationals with a throw of 17.88 meters, earning 995 World Athletics ranking points, at the Harry Gladstein Fieldhouse in Bloomington, Indiana.
It was his first meet in just over a month since throwing 18.78 meters last Dec. 13 to place second at the Husker Holiday Open at the Bob Devaney Sports Center in Lincoln, Nebraska.
“I don’t know what my next meet will be yet,” said the two-time Southeast Asian Games gold medalist, who didn’t seem satisfied with his outing considering his season best last year was 19.22 meters for the bronze in the Asian Throwing Championships in Mokpo, South Korea.
He is keen on competing in the World Athletics Championships in September in Tokyo, Japan where the qualifying standard is 21.50 meters.
