Mangliwan gains finals in New Delhi

PARIS Paralympic Games veteran and wheelchair racer Jerrold Pete Mangliwan clocked a season best one minute and 2.96 seconds yesterday in the men’s 400-meter T52 heats last Tuesday night to reach the finals today of the World Para Athletic Championships in New Delhi, India.

A gold medalist in the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Para Games, Mangliwan finished third in the second heat behind Japan’s Tomoya Ito (58.33) and Mexico’s Leonardo De Jesus Perez (1:01.76), who were first and second, respectively, at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in the Indian capital.

Also scheduled for action today were fellow Paris Paralympian Cendy Asusano, the country’s best finisher in fourth place in the quadrennial global meet for physically-challenged athletes, in the women’s javelin throw F55, F56 finals

Joining them was Rosalie Torrefiel in the finals of the women’s discus throw F11 in the competition serving as a tune-up for the national para track and field athletes, coached by Joel Deriada and Bernard Buen, to the Asean Para Games in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand, in January.
