INTERNATIONAL Master and former national chess team player Cris Ramayrat Jr. passed away last Monday, his family announced. He was 66.

 “We are deeply saddened to announce the interment Wednesday of our beloved, Cris Edgardo ‘Bobot’ Acosta Ramayrat Jr. who peacefully joined our Creator last January 13, 2025 at the age of 66,” his family announced. 

“For those who want to visit the wake of our beloved Tatay, his remains are currently laid at: Bong Santiago Mem Chapel 814 A Bonifacio Ave BRY San Juan Cainta Rizal (bago dumating po ng Greenland Subd).”

A newspaper clipping shared on the Phil. Chess News and Updates viber group showed the Laoag City native ruled the 1985 US Speed Championship with a record of 13 wins and one loss.

His campaign was capped by back-to-back wins over Israeli Grandmaster Roman Dzindzichashvili and Syrian-born Yasser Seirawan of the US to pocket the hefty cash prize then of $1,000.

“I want to buy some chess books because I have never had one before,” Ramayrat was quoted as saying in the report when asked what he intended to do with his earnings.
