EXPECT slam bang in the second half of the centennial season of the NCAA this year with several events, such as volleyball and juniors’ basketball tournaments, set to come off the wraps.
The first half of the league’s 100th season was highlighted by Mapua University’s title win in the cage tilt.
A reliable Malaya-Business Insight source said the league may kick off its second term of activities with the beach volleyball meet this month.
Last season’s joust was played at the Subic Bay Sand Courts in Olongapo, with the Letran Lady Knights led by then rookie Gia Maquilang, skipper Lara Silva and Jogi Maquilang completing a sweep to capture the women’s crown.
In men’s play, the Perpetual Altas defended retained the crown behind multi-awarded Louie Ramirez, Jefferson Marapoc, and Klint Mateo.
The volleyball events have yet to have a final schedule as the College of St. Benilde Lady Blazers will begin a new era in their four-peat drive after the departure of MVP Cloanne Mondonedo, Gayle Pascual, Michelle Gamit and Jade Gentapa.
The NCAA said it plans to host the volleyball tournament’s first round of eliminations in different schools—a first time if it pushes through.
Also up in the second half are juniors’ basketball, men’s football, lawn tennis, track and field and cheerleading.
The Letran Squires are aiming for back-to-back diadems after bringing down the Perpetual Junior Altas last season in a winner-take-all Game 3.
Aside from men’s basketball, chess, taekwondo, table tennis, badminton, and street dance events were held in the first half of the season.
