PROMISING Fil-Am swimmer Gian Christopher Santos is set to plunge into action and make his national senior team debut in the men’s 400-meter freestyle heats on Sunday at the World Aquatics Championships in Singapore.

A freshman and varsity swimmer at Columbia University, Santos, 19, has a personal best of three minutes and 55.61 seconds in the event where he is bidding to reach the finals on Sunday evening.

After a three-day break, the lean and lanky tanker returns to the pool on July 30 to compete in the men’s 200-meter individual medley heats, hoping to surpass his PB of 2:04.44.

Santos is one of two swimmers competing for the country in the event, the other being Fil-German Adrian Philipp Eichler, 20, who holds the national record of 1:50.29 in the 200-meter freestyle set at the German Nationals last May, breaking the 1:50.82 mark of Jessie King Lacuna.

Also vying for the country in the world meet are female divers Rose Ocmer and Arianna Hanna Drake, who were set to compete tomorrow at the start of the diving events.
