REIGNING champion Far Eastern University is expected to be pressed in its title-retention bid in the highly awaited 87th UAAP Cheerdance Competition this Sunday, Dec. 1, at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The FEU Cheering Squad, which will be performing last, has vowed to defend its title, captivate and wow the judges with their Disney’s Frozen-inspired piece.
“As far as defending is concerned, hindi kami talaga nagfo-focus doon, focus namin is to hit the routine. That’s the only premise needed. Kung panalo, thank you, kung hindi, okay lang din, basta buo iyong run ng team para sulit iyong pinaghirapan for the past six to eight months,” FEU coach Randell San Gregorio said in a ress conference last Wednesday.
“Siyempre, we only do this once a year, at walang bawi ito, like the other sports na may next game. Dito, next year na iyong next game. Every year bago, so kung mabubuo, may chance. Kung hindi, mas less iyong chance. Basically, kailangan lang mabuo iyong routine,” he added.
UAAP CDC technical head Paula Nunag said the criteria of judging will be the same as the previous cheerdance showdowns
“Now, what we can expect is basically from last year kasi, you already saw the routines they had, the eight teams. The criteria will be the same. As it has been for the last couple of years. It will be stunting, the pyramids, then you have tumbling, then you’ll have tosses. So those are the specific cheer skills that we will be looking for and one judge will judge each of those categories. And then, because it is cheerdance, there will be four judges who will be judging the dance portion. It’s the choreography, how they transition, the spacing, and the genres that they will be using, the technique and the execution,” she said.
“So, how we’ve set it up is that there will be four judges for cheer and four judges for dance as well. For me, the key thing or the exciting thing about cheerdance, year in and year out, is that inspiration can come from anywhere. So, you do not know, right? What these teams have really worked on for us on Sunday.”
