PLAYING the spoiler’s role to the hilt and banking on his endurance and stamina, unsung District One foiled fading Vinalot Eyu’s bid to sweep the Triple Crown over the weekend, storming down the homestretch to handily win the third leg at the Metro Manila Turf Club track in Malvar, Batangas.

With PSA Rider of the Year John Alvin Guce at the reins, District One bided its time until the final bend before making its move to rule the grueling 2,000-meter race by four lengths in two minutes and .08 seconds.

The victory was worth P2.1 million for the winning horse owned and bred by SC Stockfarm Inc. led by Oliver “Jojo” Vasquez, while Transform, owned by top breeder and owner Hermie Esguerra, was a far second.

Cole is Right was third while top pick Vinalot Eyu, which had handily won the first two Triple Crown legs, settled for fourth in the event sanctioned by the Philippine Racing Commission led by chairman Reli de Leon.

In other events, El Jaleo topped the three-year-old locally bred stakes race while Habebi Scout was the champion of the third leg of the Hopeful stakes race.
