CAPAS, Tarlac. – Philippine Athletics Championships pole vault gold medalist Elijah Cole and Alyana Nicolas will gun for spots in the Asian Athletic Championships in the Patafa Pole Vault Challenge on Tuesday at the Vermosa Sports Hub in Imus, Cavite.
Fresh from their triumphs at the New Clark City Athletic Stadium over the weekend, the two will banner the cast in the event organized by pole vault standout Ernest John Obiena and sanctioned by the Philippine Athletics Track and Field Association.
Obiena, who finished fifth in the Shanghai leg of the Wanda Diamond League over the weekend, is expected to grace the pole-vault-only competition meant to discover athletes in the demanding technical event.
Also vying in the prestigious event are Fil-Am Amy Christensen and Hokett delos Santos, plus some other foreign bets who also took part in the ICTSI meet.
The Patafa Pole Vault Challenge is important for Cole and Nicolas, who are FilAm Sports proteges, as they seek to meet the Asian entry standard of 5:51 meters in the men’s pole vault and 4.10 meters on the distaff side.
Cole has a personal best of 5:41 meters while Nicolas has a personal best of 4.06.
