Ando finishes sixth in Bahrain

COMPETING in a heavier weight class, two-time Olympic Games veteran Elreen Ann Ando finished sixth in the women’s 64-kilogram division of the IWF World Weightlifting Championships in Manama, Bahrain late Tuesday night.

Ando, who saw action in the women’s 59kg category in the last Paris Olympics, hoisted 100 kilos in the snatch, 129 in the clean-and-jerk and 229 in the combined lifts in the event where two North Koreans finished 1-2 and a Chinese took third.

Ri Suk bagged the silver with 115 kilos in the snatch and two golds with 149 in the clean-and-jerk and 264 for the total lifts, respectively, while compatriot Rim Un Sim took gold in the snatch (116) and silvers (140-156) in the other two.

Making her debut in the world meet, Chinese teener Li Shuang was third across the board (107-134-241).
