NATIONAL University opened its campaign in the Shakey’s Super League on a high note by hammering down Jose Rizal University 25-14, 25-6, 25-12, yesterday at the Rizal Sports Coliseum.
Skipper Princess Robles delivered 11 markers for the Lady Bulldogs, Minierva Maaya had 10 kills, while Evangline Alinsug finished with seven attacks and one service ace for the reigning UAAP champions.
“We were a bit rusty coming off a one-week vacation and we just got back to training a week ago,” NU coach Karl Dimaculangan saod.
“We are still far from our competitive form, but it is a good thing we’re now back to our usual grind,” he added.
The Lady Bulldogs hardly showed rust, leading 16-13 after a won joust by setter Camilla Lamina. Team captain Robles gave NU a 21-14 edge as Alyssa Solomon steered the Lady Bulldogs to set point 24-14 after a cross court hit. A service ace from Robles ended the set for NU.
NU continued its momentum in the second frame, punishing the Lady Bombers16-3 that swelled to 20-4. The Lady Bulldogs finished the set following an error committed by the Lady Bombers.
Sydney Niegos and May Ruiz scored six each for JRU, while Jerry Lyn Laurente scored five markers.
The Lady Bombers slid to 0-2 standings in the Pool C.
In the other match, La Salle notched its third straight win after thumping Letran Lady 25-13, 25-9, 25-18.
Julia Coronel sizzled with 12 points, six service aces, five attacks, and one block, while Angel Canino added 10 markers for the Taft-based squad.
Natalie Estreller and Chamberlaine Cunada finished with seven kills each for the Lady Knights.
The Lady Spikers remained perfect with 3-0 while the Lady Knights fell to 0-2 card in the Pool D.
