WITH seven titles in the last 12 years, National University Pep Squad coach Ghicka Bernabe knows the Sampaloc-based cheerdancers will be the gold standard for a long time in the event.
“Siguro wala ng emotion akong mailalabas ngayon kundi happiness, since ito iyong last season ko,” Bernabe said after announcing she will retire to get married over the weekend.
“I’ve been working with the NU Pep Squad for 12 years and in those 12 years, out of nine seasons, nakakuha tayo ng seven championships and two podium finishes,” she added.
In front of 18,029 fans at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay, the Bulldogs regained the crown after scoring 723 points via a zestful and synchronized ‘Cheer-obics’ performance.
Last year’s Far Eastern University Cheering Squad settle for second with 719 points after paying homage to the late rap icon Francis Magalona, while a Lady Gaga-inspired performance gave the University of Santo Tomas Salinggawi Dance Troupe the second runners-up finish, earning 640 points in the competition.
