FOUR-TIME Southeast Asian Games men’s 400-meter hurdles king Eric Cray opened his 2022 athletic season yesterday (Saturday in the US) by finishing fifth and third in the men’s 400 and 200-meter runs, respectively, in the UAB Vulcan Invitational in Birmingham Alabama.
A double gold medalist in the 2019 Southeast Asian Games, Cray clocked 48.93 seconds in the 400-meter race and 22.16 seconds in the 200-meter sprint as reported by the pinoyathletics.info owned by athletics coach and former Philippine Sports Commission statistician Andrew Purie.
The report noted that it was the first time the Fil-Am athlete had gone below 50 seconds in the 400-meter run “since the Osaka Memorial (in Japan) when he clocked 49.68.”
Cray successfully defended his 400-meter hurdles title and had another mint in the 4×100-mixed relay in the 2019 SEA Games at the New Clark City in Capas, Tarlac.
