AMC-G Spikers North Cotabato formalized its entry in the quarterfinals of the PNVF Champions League men’s division after hacking out a 25-21, 25-18, 25-15 win over One Balagtas Bulacan Republicans yesterday at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig.
Joshua Umandal starred for the AMC-G Spikers with 12 points, while Fauzi Ismail contributed 11 markers.
Uriel Mendoza and John Mendoza tallied nine and eight markers, respectively, for One Balagtas Bulacan.
AMC-G Spikers ended the pool stage in second with a 3-1 record, next to NU-Pasay City which has a 3-0 mark, while One Balagtas Bulacan settled for fourth with a 1-3 slate in Pool B.
Action resumes today in the tourney supported by the Philippine Sports Commission, Rebisco, PLDT, Philippine Olympic Committee, Cignal HD, One Sports, Cignal Play, F2 Logistics and Amigo Segurado.
Earlier, UE Manila-Cherrylume notched its first win via a 25-20, 25-14, 25-27, 24-26, 15-12 triumph over Baguio to finish its group play campaign.
John Mangahis led the Red Warriors with 25 points, John Andaya added 23 markers and John Aligayon and Giles Torres added 18 and 17 kills, respectively.
UE Manila-Cherrylume finished its Pool C stint at fourth with a 1-3 record, while the Highlanders went winless in four matches.
Mike Ferrer paced Baguio with 19 points, while Joderick Balmores contributed 11 markers.
The top two teams in each pool will advance to the quarterfinals along with first and second best third placed teams in the group stage.
National University-Pasay City topped Pool B via a 4-0 sweep, capping its domination with a 25-13, 25-16, 25-15 romp of Aklan last Wednesday night.
Also in the quarters are Pool A’s PGJC-Navy and Cignal and Pool C’s TARAG-Lolek Bacolod and Army Taguig City.
