‘No delays in financial support to athletes’

PHILIPPINE Sports Commission Chairman Richard Bachmann has issued his first marching order to agency employees: “No delays in the financial support the PSC provides the athletes.”

Bachmann, in his first flag-raising ceremony as the agency’s 12th chairman yesterday, made clear his intent to be of service to the athletes, saying: “Yun ang pinaka-urgent na bagay para matulungan natin sila. If there is any delay in allowances of any athlete, paki-delay din ‘yung akin. My salary also. Give me the names of those athletes, give me the names of the NSAs, ako na ‘yung maghahabol. Because when I say that there is no delay in allowances, I’m going to make it happen.”

He also laid down plans to provide free meals anew for the members of the Philippine team and encouraged the PSC work force to come to him if they have any suggestions or thoughts they want to share relative to the service they carry out.

“I work best when I am on the ground — talking and listening to people I am supposed to serve,” Bachmann said, adding: “I would rather go to the athlete, and I also encourage our Commissioners to do the same.”

Bachmann, joined by Commissioners Edward Hayco, Olivia “Bong’’ Coo and Walter Torres during the flag-raising rites, will hold a board meeting today.

Bachman also assured the PSC family that they are part of his priority, saying: “Kayo rin ay mga MVPs, because of the work you do to support our athletes.”

PSC employees also greeted chairman Bachmann, who will celebrate his birthday tomorrow, Jan. 11.

“I want to assure everyone that I am here to be of service. Period. No personal agenda. I am here to serve our national athletes, the NSAs, and the PSC organization,” he said.
