THE 6th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games will be held in Thailand exactly a year from yesterday, and among those eagerly looking forward to it is back-to-back Southeast Asian Games women’s individual poomsae (forms) champion Jocel Lyn Ninobla.
“Yes, I look forward to the next AIMAG and hope to go for the gold,” said Ninobla, a silver medalist in her pet event in the 2017 edition of the gams in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, at the close of the 8th PSC Women’s Martial Arts Festival at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum yesterday.
Currently ranked No. 2 in World Taekwondo Federation women’s online poomsae ratings, the pint-sized Ninobla, carrying the colors of UST, scored 8.37 points to bag the gold medal in the individual poomsae then anchored the national team to her second mint in the women’s freestyle team poomsae.
Together with Janna Dominique Oliva and Jona Keith Castillo, the Nationals scored 7.16 points in topping the event of the competition conducted by the Philippine Taekwondo Association under the auspices of the Philippine Sports Commission and supported by Pocari Sweat and GO21.
Reigning UAAP women’s team champion UST, composed of Krishai Aidaine Laxa, Chelse Xen Tacay and Jaeb Marie Viterbo, tallied 8.230 points to bag the gold in the sportsfest meant as an early tune-up for the 6th AIMAG set Nov. 17 to 26, 2023 in the Thai capital of Bangkok and the province of Chonburi.
