CALL them “victims of war.”

With the NCAA basketball and volleyball tournaments being ruled out in the league’s 96th season, the age limit of players, set at 25 years old, won’t likely be extended next season, according to a highly-reliable source.

“Last year, ini-extend namin, inadjust namin iyong age limit but another adjustment of the age ay masyado ng matanda ang bata. Must not be 26 years old, kapag must not be 27, masyado ng matanda,” the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told Malaya-Business Insight yesterday.

“Hindi na namin i-extend, masyado ng matanda, at least ngayon iyon ang sentiment ng Management Committee.”

The country’s oldest collegiate league is pushing through with its new season but only with online and hybrid events such as online chess and online taekwondo due to the health risks and uncertainties brought about by an unseen but vicious enemy.

Even the hybrid events such as the skills challenge and dunk tilt are unlikely to happen.

Set to be hosted by Letran, the 96th season was supposed to be launched this month but has been reset to get going virtually in the second week of June.
