TWO years after absorbing a stinging loss in the finals of the NCAA cage wars, San Beda University is raring to regain lost glory.

“We are happy for this development (resumption of collegiate training), and we are looking forward to the resumption of the NCAA season next year,” Red Lions coach Boyet Fernandez told Malaya-Business Insight yesterday.

“We thank the CHED for allowing the resumption of collegiate training and we are all excited to be back in the basketball court ASAP,” he added.

Fernandez said his wards, holed up since March last year when the dreaded COVID-19 pandemic broke out, are doing just fine.

“We are all doing great,” he said. “(We are) keeping ourselves in shape and safe.”

The NCAA is eyeing to launch its 97th season early next year after the Commission on Higher Education approved the guidelines for the resumption of face-to-face training last Dec. 13 with bubble training allowed at 50-percent capacity in places under Alert Level 2 and at full capacity at Alert Level 1.

The country’s oldest collegiate league plodded on this season with virtual and skills events, with the basketball and volleyball tournaments getting canceled.

Taekwondo and chess were both held online, while alumni from all 10 member-schools participated in All-Star Skills competitions for both basketball and volleyball.

San Beda was seeking to capture its fourth straight title and 23rd overall in 2019.
