PROMISING Singapore-based bowler Zach Sales Ramin will still have some time to compete in some tournaments in 2024 before undergoing a compulsory two-year enlistment with the Singaporean army, according to his father Rudi Ramin.

“He (Ramin) still has exams in May so they can only call him up for enlistment from July onwards,” the elder Ramin said of his son, who was born in Singapore and is required to enlist in its army since he has turned 18.

The bowler’s father said this will enable him to compete in the Dubai Open from Feb. 12 to 18 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates and then the Cagayan de Oro Open.

“Zach will also be able to compete in the Philippine International Open in May as well as defend his Singapore Open masters title in June,” the elder Ramin said.

Zach achieved a milestone last year when he became the youngest masters’ winner of the 53rd edition of the Singapore tournament at the age of 17.

Ramin’s feat earned him a major award from the Philippine Sportswriters Association during the PSA Awards Night on Jan. 29 at the Diamond Hotel.

“Zach, his mother and I will be there,” the elder Ramin enthused.

Aside from capturing the Singapore Open masters title, the young Ramin also bagged a team gold together with Art Barrientos, Stephen Luke Diwa and Marc Dylan Custodio in the Asian Youth Tenpin Bowling Championships in Bangkok, Thailand in August last year.
