WITH Isabella Zapanta del Rosario showing the way, De La Salle Zobel bagged five gold and four silver medals in the taekwondo competition organized by the Muntinlupa City Schools Division at the Putatan Elementary School last week.
Five days after ruling the girls’ featherweight division of the WNCAA high school tournament, the daughter of 1988 Seoul Olympian and ex-national standout Monsour del Rosario sustained her winning ways, beating fancied Muntinlupa National High School’s Lian Tamayo in the gold-medal match.
After a slow start, Del Rosario waxed hot to overwhelm Tamayo 15-4 in the first round then surged to a 13-1 lead in the second over her foe, a bronze medalist in the National Carlos Palanca Jr. Taekwondo Championships in 2023.
Since DLSZ highschooler was up by 12 points by then, the referee stopped the contest under competition rules for the abbreviated victory.
