TOKYO Olympic Games bronze medalist Felix Eumir Marcial is set to return to the United States next month to resume his professional boxing career but will be available for national team duty should the boxing association call him up to train for the Vietnam Southeast Asian Games in May 2022.

“Babalik na po ako mag-ensayo muli bilang pro kasi balak ni Sir Sean na lumaban ako muli ng Marso,” Marcial said, referring to MP Promotions chief Sean Gibbons, who personally handles the boxer’s pro progress.

Newly-elected Association of Boxing Alliances in the Philippines President Ed Picson has said that joining the national team in training is a must before Marcial can compete in the Vietnam SEA Games and the Hangzhou Asian Games in China in September next year.

“Willing naman po akong bumalik agad para mag-train with the national team pag tinawag po ako ng ABAP,” said Marcial, the defending SEA Games men’s middleweight champion who is eyeing his fourth straight mint in the Vietnam Games.

He won his initial pro fight exactly a year ago today, winning a four-round match by unanimous decision over American journeyman Andrew Whitfield on Dec. 16, 2020 at the Shrine Exposition Center in Los Angeles.
