LONG-time Philippine women’s volleyball team star Aby Maraño announced her retirement from flying the flag and country last Sunday night.
After playing for seven years for the national squad, the 30-year-old middle blocker said on her Instagram account that she is ending her stint with the national team.
“Nagwakas na ang serbisyo sa bayan, dito naman, dito na lang, dito na palagi,” wrote Maraño, a former skipper and champion spiker for La Salle in the UAAP.
“Maraming salamat. Love, Capt. Tyang,” added the 5-foot-9 Maraño.
The talismanic spiker represented the country four times in the Southeast Asian Games– in Singapore in 2015, in the 2017 edition of the Games in Malaysia, in 2019 in the Philippines, and lastly, in Vietnam two years ago.
She also served as team captain of the national squad in the 2018 Asian Games where the country finished eighth.
