AFTER outstanding performances in the first round, Ivan Malig and Grace Gella suddenly turned erratic and bowed out in the second round of the events of the IBF World Tenpin Bowling Championships at the Kuwait Bowling Sporting Club in Kuwait City.

Malig had six points while Gella had three points as they wound up fifth out of six entries in their respective groups last Monday.

Malig opened strong with lines of 235 and 236 but suffered a dip in form, scoring 195, 179, 179 in the next three games for a total of 1024 pinfalls and a 204.80 average.

Gella scored 210, 176, 195, 224 and 216, respectively, in her own five-game series for a 1021 tally and a 204.20 norm.

Despite the setbacks, American coach Joe Slowinski still saw silver linings in the way both bowlers performed.

“We will continue to refine and strive to make better shots for nearly 110,000,000 people (back home),” Slowinski said.

“Fight to the end, no matter what. Implement with clarity and let the chips fall where they land. Control the controllables,” he added.

Scheduled last night was the start of the women’s doubles with Mades Arles partnering with Rachelle Leon, Gella with former World Cup champ Krizziah Tabora Macatula and Dyan Coronacion with Lara Posadas-Wong.
