KRISTEL Macrohon had a total lift of 232 kilos and topped the women’s Class B 71kg division early morning yesterday (Monday night in South America) of the world weightlifting championships in Bogota, Colombia.
A gold medalist in the 2019 Southeast Asian Games, Macrohon hoisted 104 kilos in the snatch and 128 kilos in the clean-and-jerk to edge Brazil’s Amanda Schott, who took second place with a combined lift of 228 (103-125).
Venuezela’s Laura Penado (225) finished third while Vanessa Sarno, who nearly missed the world meet due to deep cuts on both hands, finished fourth with a total lift of 224 kilos (99-125).
Tokyo Olympics gold medalist Hidylin Diaz had earlier achieved a golden breakthrough in her sixth outing in competition last week by sweeping three mints in topping the women’s 55kg division.
She also picked up valuable Olympic ranking points as part of the qualifying process for the Paris Summer Games in 2024. — Bong Pedralvez
