DRAWING from his own experience as a former basketball official, new PSC chairman Noli Eala wants to take the National Sports Associations’ liquidation of PSC financial support, a perennial problem, by the horns.
“I know that liquidation (of PSC funds) by NSAs is a perennial problem. I knew this before I came to the PSC because of my involvement in the SBP,” Eala, a former Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas director, said yesterday during the Philippine Sportswriters Association Forum.
In his talks with his predecessor, Butch Ramirez, Eala revealed “the PSC had offered a solution but the problem continues,” adding that he already had initial talks with the resident auditor of the Commission on Audit on the matter.
He said he is eyeing private management experts as consultants “who can hopefully help us come up with a system so that that the training of athletes will not be disrupted when it comes to liquidation.
“It is sad that a financial and accounting flag or infirmity in the system is the reason why the development of sports and athletes is hampered,” Eala noted.
He said that one way of addressing the liquidation issues involving NSAs and athletes “is a system of writing off very old accounts and receivables so we can bring down them down.
“But I think a more permanent solution can be found through a proper study and audit of our processes,” Eala said.
“I have informed my staff we will bring in an audit and management team that can help streamline the systems of the PSC,” he said, “so we can craft policies that will address the perennial problems of the NSAs’ unliquidated funds.”
