LETRAN seeks its fourth straight win and a share of the early lead when it faces Jose Rizal University today in the 99th NCAA women’s volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.
Holding a 3-0 card, the Lady Knights will try to forge a tie with reigning two-time champion College of St. Benilde against the Lady Bombers at 10 a.m.
After its two promising triumphs early on, Letran picked up its third straight win last Tuesday at the expense of Emilio Aguinaldo College 25-22, 25-21, 23-25, 25-15.
Rookie Gia Maquilang, Nizelle Martin, Judiel Nitura and Angelique Ledesma are expected to show the way for the Lady Knights.
JRU hopes to rediscover its winning ways after a sorry 13-25, 12-25, 20-25 loss to the Lady Blazers last Sunday.
The Lady Bombers will bank on skipper Mary Ruiz May, Karyla Jasareno, Gayle Batara and Jerry Lyn Laurente.
The San Beda Lady Red Spikers and the Arellano Chiefs collide at 2 p.m.
Both squads have identical 1-2 records, with San Beda gunning for its second win in a row, while Arellano is out to bounce back.
The Mendolia-based crew six days ago survived San Sebastian College 25-17, 25-23, 22-25, 21-25, 15-10.
“Well, ang sabi ko sa kanilang lahat lagi. . .sinasabi ko sa kanila iyong tiyaga– tatalunin natin iyong galing ng isang manlalaro kapag matiyaga at naging willing to learn (tayo),” San Beda coach Edgar Barroga said. “So, iyon iyong naging key namin. Hopefully, magtuloy-tuloy lalo ngayon nanalo.”
